American Airlines Adds Airbus A321 Service to Boston

American Airlines has five daily flights from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The airline uses Boeing 737s on this route typically. From October 5 to December 16, 2015, one of the Boeing aircrafts will be substituted.

American Airlines will substitute the first outbound morning flight from Boston and the late afternoon inbound flight from Los Angeles with this aircraft.  Note that inbound flight AA1076 revert back to the Boeing 737 on Saturdays.

On this route both Virgin America (VX) and JetBlue Airways (B6) also use the  Airbus A320 family aircrafts. By March 2016, B6 will introduce  A321 aircrafts featuring its MINT™ product from Boston to San Francisco International Airport (SFO) followed by LAX in the Fall (News – August 14, 2015).

There are three types of Airbus A321s in American Airlines’ fleet currently:

American Airlines will be using the A321B variant with First Class, Main Cabin Extra™ and Main Cabin™ on board. This variant is delivered to the Dallas Fort-Worth based airline brand new and features Audio Video on Demand Inflight Entertainment Systems and connectivity through WiFi and individual USB / AC power ports.

Compared to the Boeing 737, this aircraft has the same number of First Class seats at 16 and up to 31 seats in Main Cabin Extra/Main Cabin. Overall capacity goes up between 21 to 31 seats or 13 to 21%.
